Taliban detains Baghlan resident over alleged links to Resistance Front: Sources

KABUL — Taliban has detained a man in Baghlan Province on accusations of collaborating with the anti-Taliban Resistance Front, according to sources who spoke to Amu on Thursday.

The man, identified as Najmuddin, was arrested on Wednesday at the Do Aabi market in Shahristan Khost district, the sources said. Najmuddin is a resident of Chahar Bagh village in the same district.

According to the sources, the arrest is allegedly tied to Najmuddin’s suspected cooperation with Baryalai Sangin, a commander of the Resistance Front in Baghlan. However, Najmuddin’s relatives refuted the allegations, describing them as a pretext for broader efforts by the Taliban to intimidate and extort local residents.

“They are using these charges as a guise to oppress the people,” one relative said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to security concerns.

The arrest is not an isolated incident. Last year, the Taliban detained seven people in Baghlan, including a tribal elder named Eid Mohammad, allegedly demanding weapons and money from them, sources said.
