UK special envoy says inclusive dialogue, engagement key to Afghanistan’s future

Richard Lindsay, the United Kingdom’s special envoy to Afghanistan, said that the country’s progress depends on inclusive dialogue and engagement, following his first official visit to Kabul in the role.

Lindsay said that during this trip, he met with “a range of Afghans, including Taliban officials and returnees from Iran and Pakistan”.

“Afghanistan will only move forward through inclusive dialogue and engagement,” he said in a statement posted on social media.

He was accompanied on the visit by Robert Dickson, the UK’s chargé d’affaires for Afghanistan.

He held talks with Taliban refugees minister Abdul Kabir and the Taliban’s public health minister.

The UK, like most Western governments, does not formally recognize the Taliban administration but has maintained diplomatic contact, primarily focused on humanitarian aid, refugee coordination, and regional security.
