Six Afghan migrants have been released from a police district in the eastern neighborhood of Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, according to the Taliban-run Afghan consulate in Karachi.
The consulate noted on X that the migrants were detained by Pakistani police despite holding refugee cards.
Pakistan’s interim government implemented a policy in October of last year calling for the phased deportation of all Afghan migrants. Since November 2023, approximately 600,000 Afghan migrants have been deported from Pakistan, according to the United Nations.
