Afghanistan: Heavy rain, floods and strong winds predicted in 17 provinces

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-run Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a warning about the likelihood of heavy rain, flash floods and strong winds across 17 provinces of the country.

In a statement, the department forecasted severe weather from July 29 to 30 in the provinces of Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan, Panjshir, Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Kapisa, Parwan, Maidan Wardak, Kabul, Nangarhar, Logar, Ghazni, Paktia, Khost, Paktika, and the Salang Passes.

Rainfall is expected to range between 15 to 40 millimeters in different regions.

This warning comes after a week of deadly natural disasters that claimed more than 40 lives and injured hundreds across the country.

In one tragic incident in the Sarakhrud district of Nangarhar province, ten members of a single family lost their lives.
