KABUL, Afghanistan —Taliban flogged an individual on charges of alleged sodomy in the eastern province of Paktika, the Taliban-run Supreme Court said Wednesday.
According to Taliban statement, the individual was flogged 20 times and sentenced to one year in prison.
Taliban has not specified whether the flogging was conducted in public.
This comes as Taliban flogged 21 people in Uruzgan, Badghis and Panjshir provinces on Tuesday, July 2. Since December 2022, Taliban has flogged hundreds of individuals in public on charges of various crimes.
Taliban’s implementation of public punishments has faced strong condemnation from human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and the U.N.’s special rapporteur, Richard Bennett.
