KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees has reported that 5,665 migrants deported by Pakistan and Iran have returned to Afghanistan in the past two days.
In a statement, the ministry said that 4,881 migrants returned from Iran through the Silk Path in Nimroz, Afghanistan. The deportees included entire families, according to the statement.
Additionally, the ministry noted that 775 migrants deported from Pakistan returned through the Torkham crossing. Among these deportees were 149 families.
This wave of deportations comes as Iran’s Interior Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, reiterated calls for the expulsion of Afghan refugees from Iran.
