Russia to participate in UN-led meeting on Afghanistan in Doha

MOSCOW — Russia will participate in a U.N.-initiated meeting on Afghanistan, to be held in Doha from June 30 to July 1, Russian Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov announced.

“There will be a two-day meeting in Doha from June 30 to July 1. It is a meeting of special representatives on Afghanistan initiated by the U.N. Secretary-General,” Kabulov, who also serves as director of the Foreign Ministry’s Second Asian Department, said as quoted by TASS. When asked if he would attend, the diplomat confirmed, “Yes, I will.”

Earlier this month, on June 8, the Moscow format contact group convened in Tehran.

The group, which includes Russia, Iran, China, and Pakistan, discussed preparations for the upcoming Doha meeting, Kabulov said.
