Albania voices alarm over systematic discrimination against women in Afghanistan

Igli Hasani, Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, has expressed his country’s “grave concern” over the systematic discrimination faced by women and girls in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

In a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, Hasani detailed his meeting with Fawzia Koofi, a former member of the Afghan parliament, and a group of “courageous women.” He emphasized Albania’s commitment to amplifying their voices through international platforms such as the United Nations Human Rights Council and the Feminist Foreign Policy Network.

“We agreed to work together to leverage platforms where Albania is an active member,” Hasani stated.

Since the Taliban’s return to power, the regime has issued more than 50 decrees that restrict women and girls’ access to fundamental rights.
