Afghanistan: Heavy rains, floods predicted in 17 provinces

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-run Meteorological Department has issued a warning about the potential for heavy rain and flash floods in 17 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.

According to a statement from the department, heavy rain and floods are expected on Thursday in the provinces of Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan, Samangan, Bamiyan, Parwan, Kapisa, Panjshir, Kunar, Nuristan, Laghman, Nangarhar, Kabul, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Paktia, and Khost.

The statement also forecasts strong winds accompanied by dust in the western, southern, and central provinces of Afghanistan.

This warning follows a United Nations report revealing that tens of thousands of people have been affected by recent floods in the northern, northeastern, and western provinces of the country. The UN’s findings indicate that more than 7,800 homes have been either destroyed or damaged due to these floods.
