Taliban publicly flogs individual in Parwan

The Taliban-run Supreme Court announced that an individual was publicly flogged on charges of “sodomy” on Monday in Sayed Khail district of Parwan province.

In a statement, the court noted that the person received 39 lashes and was sentenced to one and a half years in prison. The identity of the individual was not disclosed.

Over the past three years, the Taliban have flogged hundreds of individuals, including women, for various alleged crimes. Human rights organizations have criticized the Taliban’s judicial system for its harsh punishments and lack of due process.
