EU envoy, Chinese ambassador discuss ‘cooperation with Afghanistan’

The Chinese ambassador to Kabul, Zhao Xing, announced on X that he met with the European Union’s special envoy, Tomas Niklasson, to discuss “strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Afghanistan.”

The announcement comes amid increased regional and international efforts to reach a consensus ahead of the upcoming Doha meeting of special envoys on Afghanistan.

Niklasson previously met with the Taliban’s acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, and the Iranian deputy ambassador in Kabul. In these meetings, the EU envoy reportedly discussed the forthcoming Doha meeting, scheduled for the end of the month.
