Boat sinks in Nangarhar river, leaving 20 dead

At least 20 people, including women and children, died after a boat sank in a river in Nangarhar province, according to the Taliban-run Bakhtar news agency.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Baswal area of Mohmand Dara district.

The boat was carrying 25 passengers, five of whom were rescued, Bakhtar reported.

The cause of the sinking has not yet been determined.

Nangarhar, located in eastern Afghanistan, is one of the country’s provinces where many residents lack access to basic infrastructure, such as bridges and proper roads. This lack of infrastructure often forces locals to rely on dangerous modes of transportation.
