US, UAE envoys discuss Doha meeting and women’s rights concerns

ABU DHABI, UAE — Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Envoy for Women and Girls’ Rights in Afghanistan, met with Mohamed Abushahab, the United Arab Emirates envoy to the United Nations, in the UAE to discuss the upcoming Doha meeting and concerns about women’s rights.

In a statement, the UAE mission to the UN said the discussion “focused on the upcoming third Doha meeting of Special Envoys on Afghanistan, scheduled to be held next month.”

“We also discussed shared concerns about the situation of women and girls in the country, and the importance of ensuring their access to education,” the statement added.

This meeting comes as engagements among envoys for Afghanistan have increased ahead of the third Doha meeting, scheduled for June 30.
