Uzbek, Canadian envoys discuss peace and Stability in Afghanistan

TASHKENT — Uzbekistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev, met with his Canadian counterpart, David William Sproule, to discuss bilateral relations and the promotion of lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.

In a statement, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said that the Canadian envoy praised Uzbekistan’s efforts to develop a regional stance on Afghanistan. “David Sproule highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan to develop a consolidated regional position on Afghanistan, establish long-term peace and stability in the country, as well as provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people,” the statement read.

The envoys also exchanged views on restoring Afghanistan’s national economy and the prospects of involving the country in regional connectivity processes.

This meeting of special envoys comes ahead of a UN-hosted meeting in Doha, scheduled for June 30.
