GHOR, Afghanistan — Flash floods in Ghor province have uncovered 40 ancient artifacts, according to Abdulhai Zaeem, the Taliban’s head of information and culture in Ghor.
Zaeem announced the discovery in a video released by the Taliban-run Bakhtar News Agency, noting that the artifacts were found in the Minaret of Jam area.
Local residents and Taliban officials collected the artifacts, which have now been transferred to the provincial department of information and culture for further examination and preservation.
The recent floods have also resulted in the deaths of over 50 people in Ghor.
According to UNICEF, more than 2,500 families have been affected by the severe flooding in the province.
