Nangarhar, Afghanistan — Hundreds of people, including patients, are stranded in dire conditions on both sides of the main crossing between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which has been temporarily closed.
Pakistani officials reported that the crossing was closed due to the relocation of passport and visa entry departments’ compounds. The gate is expected to remain closed for at least three days.
Torkham, the busiest crossing between Afghanistan and Pakistan, sees hundreds of people commuting daily. It also serves as a key route for trade between the two neighboring countries.
Footage obtained by Amu shows children, women, and patients among those stranded at the crossing amid hot weather and harsh conditions.
Many Afghans travel to Pakistan daily for medical reasons. The footage also shows transit trucks stranded and people, including those in wheelchairs, waiting for the gate to reopen.
