Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai, former intelligence chief of the country, characterized the recent protests in Badakhshan as a manifestation of the people’s outcry against oppression and injustice.
Commenting on the situation via X, Stanekzai remarked, “Nations are not governed with weapons and threats.”
The remarks follow protests that occurred on Friday in the Darayim district and continued on Saturday in the Argo district of Badakhshan. During these demonstrations, Taliban forces reportedly used weapons to disperse the crowds, resulting in fatalities—one protester in Darayim and another in Argo, according to sources.
Sources also indicate that a Taliban delegation, led by their army chief Fasihuddin Fitrat, has offered compensation to the families of the victims.
