Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, approved the construction of a new $34.85 billion passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport on Sunday, according to a post on X.
The new facility will become the world’s largest airport with a capacity to handle up to 260 million passengers annually, five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport. Sheikh Mohammed also stated that all operations at Dubai International Airport would gradually shift to Al Maktoum in the coming years.
The expansion at Al Maktoum International will include 400 terminal gates and five runways.
