United Nations Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett announced Monday that he will present his report on the human rights situation in Afghanistan at the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council this Thursday, Feb. 29.

The UN Human Rights Council began its session on Monday.

Earlier this month, during an online discussion on X regarding the Taliban’s detention of women and girls, hosted by Shahmana, a rights body, Bennett stated the report would cover the broader human rights landscape in Afghanistan.

“I am also addressing other human rights areas. The report will be publicized online a few days before my address to the Human Rights Council,” he said.

Bennett’s report comes as the Taliban continues to impose restrictions on women and girls’ rights in Afghanistan and has resumed public executions and floggings.
