At least one person was killed and five others injured in separate attacks across Balochistan, Pakistan, on Thursday. These incidents come as the province sees a rise in violence ahead of the February 8 elections, according to Pakistani media.
A roadside bomb explosion on Sabzal Road in Quetta claimed the life of one passerby and injured another. Emergency services swiftly responded, launching a rescue operation, while law enforcement cordoned off the area and began an investigation.
Additionally, four people were injured in two separate hand-grenade attacks in the cities of Jaffarabad and Turbat. The first attack in Turbat’s Ghulam Nabi Chowk area left one person wounded, and the second occurred on the national highway in the Dera Allah Yar area of Jafarabad district, injuring three.
The victims were immediately taken to hospitals for medical treatment, and security forces secured the attack sites.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) expressed grave concern over these terror attacks, requesting an immediate report from the chief secretary and inspector general of Balochistan.
This surge in violence occurs just a week before the scheduled general elections on February 8.
Earlier on Tuesday, a bomb explosion during an election rally in Balochistan’s Sibi, led by Saddam Tareen, a PTI-affiliated independent candidate for the NA-253 (Ziarat) constituency, resulted in at least four fatalities and five injuries.
