ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has recalled its ambassador from Iran following a reported violation of its airspace, according to a statement from the country’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday. Additionally, the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan, who is currently in Iran, will not be permitted to return.
“Pakistan reserves the right to respond to this illegal act, and Iran will bear full responsibility for the consequences,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zahra Baloch said during a statement broadcast on state-owned PTV.
The alleged airspace violation occurred on Tuesday, with Iranian state media reporting that Iranian missiles targeted two bases of the militant group Jaish al Adl, resulting in the deaths of two children.
Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian stated that the strikes were aimed at militants and did not target Pakistani nationals. Pakistan, however, has not confirmed the details of the violation or the exact locations of the strikes.
Relations between Pakistan and Iran have been strained in the past, and these recent strikes represent a significant escalation in cross-border tensions.
