A delegation led by the Taliban’s deputy chief minister, Abdul Ghani Baradar, embarked on a trip to Iran on Saturday, seeking to engage in high-level discussions with Iranian officials.
Taliban said in a statement that the primary agenda of Baradar’s visit will encompass “bilateral ties, trade relations, enhanced cooperation between Afghanistan and Iran in the Chabahar port,” as well as other pertinent matters.
Furthermore, the statement revealed that Baradar intends to extend an invitation to the Iranian government and private sector, encouraging investments in various sectors within Afghanistan. These sectors include agriculture, mining, transportation, and industry.
The visit takes place at a time when Baradar’s name is listed on the United Nations Security Council’s Sanctions List.
Additionally, just last week, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister for the Taliban, who is also sanctioned by the UN, undertook a journey to Turkey.
