Journalist Mortaza Behboudi released from Taliban custody: Sources

Mortaza Behboudi, a French-Afghan journalist, was released from Taliban custody after over nine months, sources confirmed.

Behboudi was arrested in Kabul by Taliban intelligence on January 7, 2023.

However, the Taliban has yet to provide any official comments regarding the grounds for his initial arrest or his subsequent release.

Behboudi is an award-winning journalist and photographer who focuses on migration and refugee issues; he was named one of Forbes magazine’s “30 under 30” in 2019.
