At least nine people died and over 300 others sustained injuries in road accidents that occurred in eastern province of Nangarhar and northeastern province of Kunduz during the Eid Al-Adha holiday from Wednesday to Saturday, the Taliban-run Bakhtar news agency reported on Sunday.
The accidents took place in various areas of the province as a result of reckless driving, leading to the immediate deaths of two individuals and leaving 168 others injured, some of whom are in critical condition, as stated in the news agency’s report.
All injured travelers have been transported to hospitals to receive medical treatment, the report added.
In Kunduz, at least seven people were killed and 153 more were wounded in traffic accidents in the past five days, said local health officials as quoted by Bakhtar News Agency.
Although there are no official statistics regarding casualties from road accidents that occurred nationwide during the four-day Eid Al-Adha holiday, locals have reported that more than a dozen people were killed, and over 300 individuals were injured in traffic incidents across Afghanistan.
Dilapidated roads, reckless driving, and a lack of safety measures during travel are often cited as contributing factors to the occurrence of deadly road accidents in the country.
