Dozens of men and women took to the streets of Herat City on Tuesday, protesting the recent detention of women by the Taliban.
Women at the rally chanted: “Education, Work, Freedom.”
Witnesses said the Taliban responded to the protest with gunfire. Eyewitnesses said several demonstrators were wounded.
The rally was held in the Jibrail area, northwest of Herat City.
The Taliban have not commented on the incident so far.
