Samiallah Hamidi, an Afghan mixed martial arts fighter, won a silver medal in the under-65-kilogram division at the Asian Championship in Uzbekistan after losing in the final to a hometown competitor.

Hamidi was injured during the championship bout against Hasaniddin Nasriddinov of Uzbekistan. Officials halted the fight, and Nasriddinov was declared the winner by technical knockout.

The Afghan fighter advanced to the final after defeating opponents from Chinese Taipei and Mongolia.

The silver medal marks one of Afghanistan’s strongest performances at the tournament, where athletes from across Asia competed in multiple weight categories.
