Two Afghan athletes won bronze medals at an Asian Sambo Kurash tournament held in Uzbekistan, marking a modest but notable achievement for the country’s youth competitors in the sport.
Abdul Maroof Mohseni and Rohullah Nazari, members of Afghanistan’s national team, placed third in their respective categories at the competition, which brought together under-18 athletes from across the region.
The event was held in the city of Urgench in honor of the historical figure Pahlawan Mahmoud Khwarazmi, according to organizers.
Both athletes advanced through the tournament bracket with a combination of byes and victories over opponents from countries including South Korea and Kazakhstan, ultimately securing bronze medals.
The competition marked the fifth edition of the tournament and featured participants from several Asian nations.
