At least 10 people, including six members of an Afghan migrant family, were killed in a missile strike on a residential area in southern Tehran, according to Iranian media reports.
The strike hit the Ray district, south of the capital, Iranian outlets reported. The Fars news agency attributed the attack to missile strikes by the United States and Israel.
According to the reports, four Iranian citizens were also among the dead, and several others were injured.
There was no immediate comment from Taliban officials.
Iran hosts one of the largest populations of Afghan migrants in the region. UN estimates suggest that between 3 million and 4 million Afghan refugees and migrants live in Iran, many without formal documentation.
In recent years, many have faced mounting challenges, including economic pressure, restricted access to services and an increase in deportations.
Since 2023, hundreds of thousands of Afghans have returned or been expelled from Iran. During a 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel last year, returns surged to thousands per day. More recent data from Taliban refugees commission indicate that the number has dropped sharply, to between 10 and 100 people per day, in recent weeks.
Returnees have reported difficulties finding work and accessing education and basic services in Afghanistan, where humanitarian conditions remain fragile.
Aid organizations have warned that large-scale returns could place additional strain on an already severe humanitarian crisis in the country.
