Afghanistan will host Sri Lanka in a white-ball series in the United Arab Emirates beginning March 13, the Afghanistan Cricket Board announced.

The series will open with three Twenty20 internationals in Sharjah starting March 13, followed by a three-match One Day International series in Dubai beginning March 20.

The two teams last met in a bilateral series in early 2024, when Afghanistan toured Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka swept the ODI series 3–0 and won the T20 series 2–1.

Naseeb Khan, CEO the cricket board, said the upcoming matches would mark the first time Afghanistan has hosted Sri Lanka in a bilateral series.

“We are delighted to host Sri Lanka for the first time in our history,” Khan said in a statement. He added that the series reflected strengthening ties between the two cricket boards and promised a competitive contest.

Ashley De Silva, chief executive of Sri Lanka Cricket, described the tour as historic, noting that it would be the first bilateral series Sri Lanka has played under Afghanistan’s hosting arrangement.

The series will also mark the first outing for both teams since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Afghanistan were eliminated in the group stage, while Sri Lanka advanced to the Super 8s.
