As Islamabad continues the deportation of migrants, 2,628 individuals returned from Pakistan on Sunday, Dec. 28, according to figures by the Taliban’s commission for refugees.
The commission said that a further 199 individuals were deported from Iran during the same period, with most returns carried out forcibly.
The returnees crossed back into Afghanistan through several border points, including Torkham, Spin Boldak, Bahramcha, Islam Qala and the Silk Bridge, the commission said.
The latest expulsions come a day after Pakistan deported 3,698 Afghan migrants, both forcibly and voluntarily, according to the same body.
Afghanistan has seen a sharp rise in returns in recent months as Pakistan and Iran intensify efforts to remove undocumented migrants, forcing large numbers of Afghans to leave.
UNICEF says more than 2.6 million people returned to Afghanistan in 2025 alone, many of them children. The UN agency has warned that returning families face shortages of basic supplies and worsening drought conditions.
