Afghanistan and New Zealand have been dealt a blow in their T20 World Cup campaigns after Wednesday’s match was abandoned without play due to heavy rain in Melbourne.
The first match of the day, between Ireland and England, ended early due to rain at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, while the second match, between Afghanistan and New Zealand, never got underway.
The Black Caps were coming into the match fresh off a dominant victory over Australia and would have started overwhelming favorites against Afghanistan.
But Afghanistan was in turn fired up to take on New Zealand and had been hard at training earlier in the week following their defeat at the hands of England.
New Zealand and Afghanistan will gain one point each for the match.
