Pakistan’s military said former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Faiz Hameed has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after a special military court found him guilty on multiple charges, including political interference, breaching the Official Secrets Act and abuse of authority.

According to Dawn, Hameed’s trial began in August 2024 and continued for about 15 months. The military said all legal rights were observed during the proceedings and that he was represented by lawyers of his choosing. Under military law, he has 40 days to file an appeal.

Pakistan’s information minister said the verdict was issued “on the basis of evidence,” adding that Hameed faces additional allegations that are still under investigation. The Pakistani government claims he remained involved in political activity after retiring from the army.

Hameed was arrested in August 2024 following a complaint filed by the owner of a private housing project, a case that drew significant public attention. Military officials have said his alleged role in past political unrest, including events on May 9, 2023, remains under review.
