Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani has said obeying decrees issued by their supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, is mandatory, insisting that implementing the directives remains a top priority for his ministry.
Speaking at a gathering of Taliban security personnel, Haqqani said the Interior Ministry bears the primary responsibility for enforcing Akhundzada’s orders. “The implementation and follow-up of the Amir al-Mu’minin’s decrees fall first to the Interior Ministry,” he told the audience. “In every circumstance you must pay full attention to these directives so that no negligence occurs.”
Haqqani also urged Taliban forces to help maintain and strengthen the movement’s governing structure, warning that their conduct should not fuel public resentment.
The remarks come despite Haqqani’s earlier criticism of Akhundzada, whom he has previously accused of concentrating power and ignoring calls for broader consultation within the movement.
Sources inside the Taliban told Amu that Haqqani has recently expressed dissatisfaction over a directive from Akhundzada ordering a reduction in the Interior Ministry’s structure and limiting its access to security equipment.
The comments were delivered as tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan remain high, and as several opposition political figures abroad announced a coordinated stance calling for UN-backed intra-Afghan dialogue.
