Afghanistan continued their strong form at the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 tournament, securing a commanding 49-run win over South Africa to mark their second consecutive victory.
Batting first, Afghanistan posted a formidable total of 148 for 2 in six overs, led by explosive half-centuries from Gulbadin Naib (50 off 12 balls) and Karim Janat (46 off 11). Farmanullah Safi also chipped in with a quickfire 28 off 9 deliveries, helping Afghanistan set one of the highest totals of the tournament so far.
In response, South Africa managed only 99 for 2 in their six overs, unable to keep pace with the escalating run rate. Afghanistan’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Ijaz Ahmadzai standing out by conceding just 15 runs in one over, while Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib bowled economically to keep the pressure on.
The all-round dominance reflected Afghanistan’s growing strength in the short format, with both batters and bowlers stepping up to seal the win.
This latest victory puts Afghanistan in a strong position in the group stage, having already beaten Nepal earlier in the day. They will now look to carry their momentum forward as they progress in the tournament.
