Abbas Ibrahimzada, a former deputy speaker of Afghanistan’s parliament, has been arrested in Tashkent and held in custody for the past week, sources told Amu.
A source close to him said Ibrahimzada was detained on Sept. 24 following multiple complaints filed by his business rivals. The source added that despite paying more than $350,000 in bail, he has not been released.
According to the source, Ibrahimzada has invested more than $50 million in Uzbekistan over the past four years in sectors including commercial transport and flour production. His detention has raised concerns about disruptions to his companies’ operations.
Ibrahimzada has not commented publicly on the case.
