Taliban-appointed university head calls ‘jihad’ against Pakistan ‘an obligation’

A Taliban-appointed head of Sheikh Zayed University in Khost has declared that waging jihad against Pakistan is a personal obligation for Muslims.

In a recent speech circulating on social media, Mohammad Nasim Haqqani, the Taliban-installed chancellor of the university, called Pakistan’s government a “puppet” and claimed its laws were under the “influence of Jews and Christians.”

Amu TV could not independently verify the time or location of the remarks. The Taliban administration and its Ministry of Higher Education have not publicly commented on Haqqani’s statements.

Regional analysts said the comments are politically significant, given Pakistan’s long-standing role as both a neighbor and a country accused of providing support to the Taliban in past decades.

Relations between the Taliban and Pakistan have been uneasy since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, with Islamabad saying Afghanistan-based militants conduct cross-border attacks. Taliban have rejected the allegations.
