Explosion in Farah kills seven family members

An explosion involving stored explosives killed seven members of a single family in western Afghanistan’s Farah Province on Tuesday, local Taliban officials said.

According to a statement from the Taliban district governor of Bala Boluk, Fida Mohammad Saad, the incident occurred in the village of Nawabad, where a stockpile of explosives detonated inside the home of a man identified as Jan Mohammad — also known locally as Malang Janan Qalandari.

The blast killed Mohammad, his wife and five children. Another individual who was severely wounded in the explosion died while being transported to a hospital, the statement said.

It remains unclear why the explosives were being stored in the house or whether any formal investigation is underway.
