A young man was killed “by the Taliban” in Kapisa province last week for allegedly playing the online game PUBG, local sources told Amu TV.
The incident happened Wednesday, August 6, in the village of Dirstan, near the provincial capital, the sources said.
According to the accounts, the victim, identified only as Jalal, had gone to a hill near his home to play the game because of poor internet reception in the area.
The sources said Taliban fighters approached Jalal and demanded he hand over his phone. When he refused — reportedly because the Taliban have banned PUBG — the fighters opened fire, killing him.
Other witnesses confirmed that Jalal’s brother, upon seeing the shooting, attempted to fire a hunting rifle at the Taliban but was wounded and then detained.
Local sources said two other young men in the same area were also shot dead by the Taliban last year for the same alleged offense.
