KABUL, Afghanistan—At least five people, including a Pakistani commander, three soldiers, and a local resident, were wounded in the past 24 hours during clashes between the Taliban and Pakistani border forces, according to local sources.
The sources also reported that over the past three days of fighting in the area, three Taliban fighters have been killed.
The skirmishes come as the Torkham border crossing remains closed for a 13th consecutive day, with intermittent exchanges of fire continuing between the two sides. Gunfire has been heard in the area since Tuesday, sources said.
Pakistani officials have cited the Taliban’s construction of new checkpoints and facilities near the border as the reason for the closure.
The ongoing shutdown has resulted in significant financial losses for traders on both sides, while hundreds of travelers remain stranded, facing mounting hardships.
Neither Taliban nor Pakistani officials have issued formal statements regarding the latest clashes or potential steps toward reopening the crossing.
