Clashes between Taliban, Pakistani forces continue at Torkham border

TORKHAM, Afghanistan – Sporadic clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani border guards continue near the Torkham crossing, local sources told Amu on Monday.

Security officials said both sides have used heavy weapons, causing fear and panic among residents in the area. Several rockets and shells reportedly hit residential homes near the conflict zone, resulting in property damage.

The fighting erupted around 2:30 a.m. Kabul time on Monday, March 3, and has continued intermittently. Pakistani sources said that three Pakistani soldiers have been wounded, and a truck driver has been killed in the ongoing clashes.

Taliban have yet to comment on the situation.

The border crossing at Torkham has been closed for 10 days, with Pakistani officials citing the construction of Taliban outposts and border infrastructure as the reason for the closure.

On Sunday, Taliban representatives and Pakistani officials held a meeting to resolve the dispute, but the negotiations ended without a breakthrough.
