Afghanistan’s national soccer team holds training camp in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH — Afghanistan’s national soccer team has launched a training camp in Abha, Saudi Arabia, as part of a talent identification program ahead of upcoming international competitions, the country’s football federation announced.

According to the federation, the camp brings together players from inside Afghanistan and across the world to compete for a place on the national team.

“This camp is an opportunity to identify top talent and bring together the best players to represent Afghanistan in both friendly matches and the qualifying rounds of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup,” the federation said in a statement.

The training sessions are being led by the team’s Uzbek head coach, Usmon Toshev, with the federation saying it has provided all necessary facilities to ensure the camp runs as effectively as possible.

The camp comes as Afghanistan prepares to compete in the qualifiers for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, where it will face Myanmar, Pakistan, and Syria.
