Taliban flog two in Ghazni as corporal punishments continues

KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban publicly flogged a man and a woman in Ghazni province. According to the Taliban’s statement, the two individuals were convicted Thursday on charges of “moral corruption” and sentenced to two years in prison. Each received 35 lashes.

The court also reported that a woman in Herat province was flogged on similar charges of extramarital relations.

The Taliban’s Supreme Court has recorded at least 93 public floggings across multiple provinces in less than a month, including cases involving women, according to the group’s own statistics. Independent investigations by Amu indicate that a significant number of these punishments have targeted women.

The resurgence of public corporal punishment under Taliban rule has drawn sharp criticism from international human rights organizations and foreign governments, who have urged the group to halt the practice. Despite growing condemnation, the Taliban have continued to carry out such punishments, reinforcing concerns about deteriorating human rights conditions in Afghanistan.
