KABUL, Afghanistan — A grenade attack during Friday prayers at a mosque in Aybak, the capital of northern Samangan Province, wounded at least four people, Taliban officials said.

In a statement, the Taliban’s provincial police command said the explosion occurred at Jui Zindajan Mosque as worshippers gathered for prayers. Taliban authorities attributed the attack to a “personal dispute” between two residents of Samangan and individuals connected to the mosque.

The blast occurred at around 12:45 p.m. local time at Jui Zindajan Mosque, sources said.

Taliban officials said security forces arrested two suspects as they attempted to flee. A shotgun was recovered from them, and they remain in custody for further investigation, according to the statement.

The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Afghanistan, though Taliban have not linked it to any larger militant activity.
