KABUL, Afghanistan — The Norwegian chargé d’affaires for Afghanistan, Per Albert Ilsaas, met with Taliban ministers of foreign affairs and economy in Kabul on Monday, where they discussed political, economic, and humanitarian issues, according to Taliban statements.
According to a Taliban statement, said that Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, emphasized the importance of “positive engagement” with the international community during the talks.
Muttaqi urged foreign governments to support Afghanistan’s economic growth and development, stating that mutual respect was key to improving diplomatic and economic ties.
The ministry quoted Iljas as saying that Norway remains committed to maintaining relations and cooperation with Afghanistan.
Separately, Din Mohammad Hanif, the Taliban’s minister of economy, also met with Iljas to discuss economic and humanitarian cooperation, according to the Taliban’s Ministry of Economy.
During the meeting, Hanif stressed the importance of self-reliance in addressing Afghanistan’s economic challenges. He also called for the lifting of international sanctions and the release of Afghanistan’s frozen foreign reserves.
Norway’s diplomatic mission for Afghanistan has not commented on the meetings.
