Pakistan’s military said on Saturday that an Afghan national was killed in a recent security operation in North Waziristan’s Datta Khel area.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistan’s armed forces, the individual was identified as Luqman Khan, also known as Nusrat, the son of Kamal Khan. He was killed by security forces in an operation on Feb. 6, ISPR said.
Khan, a resident of Spera District in Afghanistan’s Khost Province, was described by Pakistani authorities as being involved in militant activities. ISPR said it had contacted the Taliban administration in Kabul to arrange the transfer of his body.
“Such incidents are irrefutable evidence of the involvement of Afghan nationals in terrorist activities in Pakistan,” the statement said. “The interim Afghan government is expected to fulfill its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil by terrorists for perpetuating acts of terrorism against Pakistan.”
Pakistani authorities have previously claimed that Afghan nationals have been killed in counterterrorism operations. Last month, the military reported that a 48-year-old Afghan national, identified as Muhammad Khan Ahmedkhel, was killed in an operation in the Sambaza area of Balochistan’s Zhob district on Jan. 11. His body was later handed over to the Taliban, according to ISPR.
