KABUL, Afghanistan — A coal mine collapse in Dara-e-Suf district of Samangan province has left two workers dead and one injured, local Taliban officials said.
The incident occurred in the Shakol Sheikha area of the district on Monday, according to the Taliban-run provincial police command, which confirmed the casualties to Bakhtar News Agency.
Taliban authorities said a delegation has been dispatched to investigate the cause of the collapse and to assess the condition of the injured worker.
Mining accidents are common in Afghanistan, where safety regulations are often poorly enforced, particularly in remote areas.
The country’s coal industry has seen increased demand, especially as exports to neighboring Pakistan have surged under Taliban rule.
