Two Pakistani soldiers were killed during a clash with militants at a security post in Qila Abdullah, Balochistan, the Pakistani military said in a statement on Tuesday. The incident also left five militants dead.
According to Dawn News, the attack occurred on Monday night when militants launched an assault on a security checkpoint.
The military’s statement detailed that the assailants attempted to detonate an explosives-laden vehicle inside the post but were thwarted by the resistance of the stationed security forces.
The attack is part of an escalating trend of militant violence in Pakistan over the past three years.
A recent report from a Pakistani research organization revealed that more than 95 percent of last year’s terrorist attacks occurred in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The data shows that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced 295 attacks during that period, highlighting the security challenges facing the region.
