Mumbai — Saif Ali Khan, one of Bollywood’s most prominent actors, underwent surgery on Thursday after being stabbed multiple times during an apparent burglary at his Mumbai residence, his public relations team confirmed.
Khan, 54, is known for his roles in over 70 films and television series and is married to Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor. “There was an attempted burglary at Mr. Saif Ali Khan’s residence,” his representatives said in a statement, urging fans to remain calm.
Kapoor, speaking to local media, provided an update on her husband’s condition. “Saif had an injury on his arm for which he is in the hospital,” she said, adding that “the rest of the family is doing fine.”
Khan, the son of former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and acclaimed actress Sharmila Tagore, has built a storied career in the entertainment industry. His notable works include the 2001 blockbuster Dil Chahta Hai and the acclaimed Netflix crime series Sacred Games.
Niraj Uttamani, a senior official at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, told The Hindustan Times that Khan sustained six injuries, two of which were described as deep.
Meanwhile, police conducted forensic examinations of the actor’s residence, images of which were broadcast by the Press Trust of India news agency. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any suspects have been apprehended in connection with the burglary.
Khan’s recovery is being closely monitored, with fans and colleagues across India expressing their support for the actor during this difficult time.
