Shirin Akhund, the Taliban governor in Kandahar, has issued a letter to some international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), demanding them to halt their operations, sources familiar with the matter told Amu TV on Tuesday.

The directive, reportedly communicated in an official letter, comes days after a Taliban cabinet meeting in Kandahar, which was led by Taliban supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada.

It remains unclear whether the directive will apply to all international NGOs operating in Kandahar or if it will be expanded to other provinces.

International NGOs play a crucial role in delivering aid to Afghanistan, particularly as the country faces economic collapse and severe food insecurity.

The Taliban have previously imposed restrictions on NGOs, including bans on women working in the sector, actions that have drawn sharp criticism from the international community.
