Twelve Afghan nationals were released from various prisons in Pakistan and have returned to Afghanistan.
According to a report by the Taliban-run Bakhtar News Agency that the individuals had spent three days in detention in Pakistan. Their arrests were reportedly due to a lack of “legal residency documents.”
This development comes amid growing complaints from Afghan migrants in Pakistan and Iran about what they describe as mistreatment and abusive behavior by law enforcement in both countries.
For over a year, Pakistan has intensified its crackdown on undocumented Afghan migrants, including detentions and forced deportations. Iran has also escalated its efforts to detain and expel Afghan nationals this year.
